Strategic Procurement II Overview: From Theory to Practice

There are a number of topics that could be discussed under the banner Strategic Procurement. In the Strategic Procurement Institute I we discuss the broad theme of increasing our collective skills in spend management as we believe this is the core body of knowledge in which we should strive for excellence. In connection with this theme there are four (4) pillars of spend management that are presented and discussed from a theory and case study standpoint. Those four (4) pillars include opportunity assessment, business case development, cost management execution and supplier relationship management.
The primary objective of Strategic Procurement Institute #2 is to dig deeper into each of these pillars to go from theory to practice. The Institute will focus on the practical application of each pillar using live data sets. In-class time will be concentrated on practical “how-to” road maps combined with extensive class discussion with your colleagues and facilitated in a manner to increase the value of what you can take back to your institution for immediate use.

- Practical roadmaps and examples you can take home

He has more than 30 years of consulting and business experience and has placed particular emphasis on the higher education and healthcare industries in recent years. Jim has led several comprehensive strategic sourcing, non-salary cost reduction and strategic procurement planning engagements for university, healthcare and Fortune 500 clients. Throughout his career Jim has been a frequent pioneer of developing new service offerings and tackling his client’s most pressing issues, enabling them to go farther. Jim is a frequent speaker at higher education industry events.
Sandy Hicks - CPPB
CPO University of Colorado
Sandy Hicks, CPPB, is Associate Vice President and Chief Procurement Officer at the Procurement Service Center for the University of Colorado. Ms. Hicks is responsible for overseeing the procurements and payables of the four-campus University of Colorado System. The annual spend for the University is just over $1 billion dollars. Hicks was instrumental in the successful implementation of procurement technologies, such as SciQuest and Concur. Ms. Hicks is a Past President of the National Association of Educational Procurement (NAEP). She currently serves as the chair of the NAEP Innovators Forum. She was the recipient of the 2013 NAEP Bert C. Ahrens Achievement Award.
