LISTSERVS

Listservs are essentially electronic mailing lists. They can be set up as open discussion lists where subscribers can post messages and communicate with one another or lists can be set up to distribute information, like a bulletin or newsletter to a group of people at the same time.

To actively participate in a listserv there are two steps. The first is to subscribe to the list and the second is to post messages. In order to utilize most of NAEP's lists your institution must be a Member of the Association. Business Affiliate Members are not eligible to subscribe to premium listservs.

Regional List Membership
A subscription opportunity exists for each of our 18 regions. While typically Members within a region subscribe to their individual region, active institutional Members may subscribe to any region's listserv.

Spam Filters and Junk Mail
Listserv messages are like any other e-mail—and like any other e-mail they're subject to the same spam filters and junk mail folders as any message that is sent to you from a source that is unknown to your e-mail system. If you have subscribed to a list and are not receiving messages a good place to start troubleshooting is your junk mail folder. If you find Listserv messages in your junk mail folder then your institution's spam filters are classifying them as junk which prevents them from reaching your inbox. Entering the address of any listsev to which you belong into your e-mail system's safe list is a good starting point for resolving Listserv problems.

Unsubscribing
If you wish to unsubscribe to any list that you are currently receiving, simply click on the "unsubscribe" link at the bottom of any of your list emails.

Subscribing
The public lists may be subscribed by clicking the links below. NAEP members may use this form to subscribe to our members only lists.

  This list is to announce new editions of the "Purchasing Link". It is announcement only and not a participatory list.
• EPJ Digital Journal
  This list is to announce new editions of the Educational Procurement Journal Digital Edition. It is not a participatory list.
• Education
  This list is for announcements about educational opportunities available through NAEP. Annual Meeting announcements, webcast announcements, on-demand availability announcements and other, similar, messages are distributed through this list. This list is not Member participatory.

NAEP Members Only Lists
(You must be an NAEP member to sign-up for these premium lists)

• National List: This list is for the Members to communicate with one another over the entire Membership. An e-mail sent to this list will reach anyone who is a Member of this list regardless of region. This list is often used for things like requests for RFP's.
• Research Institution List: In response to the success of our Community Exchange for Research Schools at our 2009 Annual Meeting in Providence, NAEP has established a Research University Listserv to enable this community within our community to leverage the Association’s technology infrastructure for collaboration and knowledge sharing. This listserv is not intended to be a platform for RFP requests, rather, it is meant to provide access to your peer group in real-time to confront shared challenges and brainstorm effective solutions to issues such as Stimulus Fund Appropriations, AARA Funding, and other critical issues faced by Research Institutions.
• Supplier Diversity List: This list is for the Members to communicate with one another about supplier diversity issues.
• Sustainability List: This list is for the Members to communicate with one another about sustainability issues.
• Regional Lists: These lists are available for Members to communicate with one another on a regional level.

Listserv Policies & Procedures

These listservs are a Member benefit to facilitate ease of access to, and communication with, your colleagues. Any misuse of the listserv or failure to abide by any of the guidelines described below, including but not limited to using the listserv to post jobs or market on behalf of a vendor, may result in the temporary or permanent loss of listserv privileges.

I. Membership Benefit
The NAEP listserv is provided as a service of the National Association of Educational Procurement. Subscription to the list is a no-cost privilege provided to our Membership. As the full cost of the listserv is borne by the Membership, only individuals employed by current Member institutions will be permitted to participate. However, upon application, individuals employed by potential Member institutions, which have not been Members of the Association during the preceding twelve months, may be provided with access to the NAEP listserv for a trial period of up to thirty days. Identification of subscribers is verified by the National Office based upon information provided by the subscriber. Message broadcast occurs automatically. The listserv should not be used as a method for posting job opportunities; please do not use it as such.

II. Editorial Control
NAEP does not undertake editorial control of postings or actively monitor the site for inappropriate postings. All action relative to a specific message can only occur after posting. However, in the event that any inappropriate posting is brought to NAEP's attention, NAEP will take all appropriate action which may include removal from the listserv.

III. Disclaimer
The opinions and information posted on this site are those of the originator only. Neither NAEP, nor any of NAEP's Member institutions accept responsibility for these messages. None of the opinions expressed by the Membership should be considered as legal advice and counsel. VI. Local Systems
Care should be given by each list Member to ensure that their local computer system continues to operate without causing detrimental impact to NAEP or the listserv system. These include proper use of "vacation" programs, e-mail forwarding and the like. While NAEP will endeavor to work with individual Members who experience problems, the operators of the listserv system reserve the right to discontinue, either temporarily or permanently, access to any user whose local system causes problems for the listserv system itself.

VII. Termination
NAEP reserves the right to terminate access to any user who does not abide by these guidelines.

VIII. Common Etiquette

• Do not attack or criticize individuals.
• Use upper and lower case letters, all CAPS is SHOUTING.
• Be considerate of spelling limitations; it's the information and thoughts that are important.
• Summarize and post responses to surveys or post information to the whole listserv if you feel it is appropriate.
• Include a subject header that accurately reflects the message content.
• Don't send "thank you's" and "me too's" to the whole group.
• Thank the Members in your message.
• Be clear in your message to reduce the risk of misinterpretation.
